The 2022 Hispanic Heritage themed shield was designed by Mar Figueroa. Born in Ecuador, Marly now resides in New York. Through her work, Gallardo explores themes such as migration, nostalgia, and yearning. The shield design incorporates a number of elements related to Hispanic culture, including references to Aztec and Taíno indigenous communities.
